In principle it handles only wave files (i.e. WAV, MP3, OGG, etc.) but it can be easily expanded to support XM or MIDI files. I haven't included it just for not loading the engine with tons of features that I'm not going to use. But if some people is willing to create some MIDI or XM files for MoG2, the there will be support for them!

Are you using a "standard" sound engine, or did you create one yourself?..

The sound engine uses the SDL_sound library to decode wave files and SDL_mixer to mix them
(http://www.libsdl.org)

If I want to include MIDI or XM files, I just have to add FMOD and TIMIDITY libraries to decode those files, and then mix them using also SDL_mixer with the rest of the sound effects of the game.
